The Lord’s Prayer

The lord’s prayer comes from Mathew chapter 6 (KJV)

“5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Jesus made it possible for us to enter in before the Father with our prayers through the redemptive work He did on the cross. Jesus then gave us the basic pattern for prayer.

1)You begin with praise and worship before all else.

2)Then you pray for God’s will to be done, we can suggest how we would like to see things turn out but God is sovereign and we can not demand our way.

3)Next we move on to our petition our needs and desires that fall in the will of God.

4)Then we get to the do unto others as we want done unto us clause, here we need to ask for forgiveness and mercy for our failings and forgive others (verses 14-15).

5)We pray that we will not fall into temptations and that God will guide us away from being tempted.

6)Now we pray for protection so that Satan will not have his way in our life.

7)And we end as we started with praise and worship. We need to give praise and worship to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Praying for the Kingdom to come will be completely fulfilled in the end times of the book Revelation at Jesus Returning.

This is just a basic summary, much more can be learned with a proper bible study. We see 7 elements or areas to this prayer, 7 in the Bible is the number of completeness. you should do a study of 7s and multiples of 7 in the Bible as it is a fascinating study.
